Course Overview
As Muslims, our Islamic history is a crucial part of our identity and the foundation of our heritage. Islamic education devoid of Islamic History is like a body without its skeleton. Studying Islamic History helps students understand the various ways Islam was applied to people and society, how Islam developed under diverse landscapes, and how it transformed from generation to generation. It was through historical context that sciences grew, and the golden era emerged, received differently by different cultures and employed in many ways.
Course Aims and Objectives
- Gain a Comprehensive Understanding of Islamic History: Explore key historical events from the 6th century to the 19th century, tracing the rise and fall of major Islamic empires, including the Umayyads, Abbasids, Ottomans, and Mughals.
- Analyze the Political, Social, and Cultural Developments: Examine the governance, intellectual movements, and cultural exchanges that shaped Muslim societies and their interactions with other civilizations.
- Explore the Islamic Golden Age and Scientific Contributions: Understand the contributions of Muslim scholars in fields such as science, philosophy, medicine, and architecture, and their influence on global knowledge.
- Assess the Impact of External Challenges: Investigate the effects of the Crusades, Mongol invasions, and European colonialism on Islamic societies and how Muslim communities responded.
