About The Course
Al Balagh is offering, first of its kind, Islam, End-of-Life and Palliative Care online course to explore contemporary issues related to end-of-life care and palliative care from an Islamic perspective. The course aims to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence to care for Muslim patients with terminal illnesses and their families. It will contribute to and enhance your ability to lead and drive effective care with Muslim patients suffering from advanced diseases.
The course will introduce you to the basic principles of Islamic principles of end-of-life care, as well as discuss the Islamic approach to the emerging field of palliative care. The course will also equip you with essential Islamic rulings related to end-of-life care, such as withdrawing life support, organ donation, and wasiyyah (Islamic Will). Students will learn about psychosocial and family care and the role of Islamic ethics using theory and practical case studies based on the Quran and Sunnah.
The course is designed for a variety of healthcare professionals, counsellors and chaplains involved in primary and secondary care as well as for patients and family members dealing with terminal illnesses. You will develop a more profound knowledge and understanding of the issues within end-of-life care and palliative care, examining the key Islamic, counselling, ethical and social issues and how these translate into practice. Course Overview
The course intends to guide you to use your communication skills effectively to provide comfort and relief to Muslim patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. It will also explore the support provided to terminal patients of different ages such as children, youth, aged, patients suffering from advanced cancer, dementia, and neurological, lung & other advanced heart diseases.
Key Objectives
The key objectives of this course are to:
- Develop an ability to understand the Islamic principles and practises of end-of-life care and palliative care.
- Examine the various common situations faced by Muslim practitioners, patients and their families.
- Evaluate the critical issues arising from providing end-of-life care to terminal patients of different ages such as children, youth, aged, patients suffering from advanced cancer, dementia, and neurological, lung & other advanced heart diseases.
